REPS GmbH
Full-time
Permanent employee

About us

REPSRoad Energy Production System is an Austrian deep-tech start-up transforming road traffic into a source of clean, renewable energy.
Our technology captures lost energy from vehicles and converts it into electricity, turning roads into power plants.
We are an interdisciplinary team of engineers, physicists and business builders working on a technology that has the potential to reshape infrastructure and energy systems.
Our ambition is bold: to build a globally scalable infrastructure technology.

Your role

We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to design, prototype, and refine the mechanical systems that form the physical backbone of our energy harvesting modules, from trigger assemblies to structural road plate housings built to endure continuous high-load vehicle traffic.

Your tasks

  • Design and development of mechanical trigger assemblies, structural housings, and road plate components
  • Creation of 3D CAD models, detailed assembly drawings, and technical drawings using SolidWorks
  • Technical calculations and FEA simulations to ensure structural durability under dynamic loading
  • Material selection and specification of bearings, seals, and fasteners for long service life
  • BOM (Bill of materials) creation for mechanical subsystems
  • Support in the development of concepts for prototypes and test benches
  • Management of external manufacturing and machining parties
  • Testing and analyzing prototypes as well as evaluating, documenting, and adapting results
  • Provide hands-on technical support during system development and field installation
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including electrical, hydraulic, mechatronics engineers and physicists

Your profile

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a comparable qualification
  • Strong CAD skills, SolidWorks preferred — including detailed assembly drawings and GD&T
  • Experience with FEA tools (ANSYS, COMSOL, or similar)
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes: machining, welding, sheet metal fabrication
  • Ability to own a design from concept through physical prototype and field deployment
  • Strong craftsmanship skills and strong technical judgement
  • Enthusiasm for energy transition, sustainability and future energy technologies
  • Proactive and structured work style, solution-oriented thinking and the joy to work in a dynamic start-up environment
  • Strong collaboration skills to work with electrical, hydraulic, mechatronics engineers and physicists
Bonus points
  • Experience designing for high-load or high-cycle applications (automotive, civil, industrial)
  • Knowledge of bearing selection (SKF or similar)
  • Exposure to hydraulic  system integration
  • Hands-on prototyping and field testing background
  • Experience working with plastic components, enclosures, or injection-moulded parts

Why us?

  • A unique opportunity to be part of a Tyrolean greentech startup from the very beginning – with a meaningful mission and the ambition to become a future unicorn
  • Technically demanding and intellectually rewarding tasks with real-world impact
  • Hands-on work with cutting-edge innovation
  • Freedom to bring in your ideas and express your technical creativity
  • A modern work environment with space for personal growth and professional development
  • Direct collaboration with the System Heads and an experienced, interdisciplinary team
  • Flat hierarchies, open communication, and a startup spirit
  • Flexible working hours tailored to your needs
  • A salary above industry average, based on the Austrian “Kollektivvertrag für Arbeiter:innen im Metallgewerbe”
Please be aware, that as a fast-moving scale-up, we can only grow if we work on-site.
